Recent developments regarding the Easee chargers have caused some concern. We understand that this may raise questions and concerns. Therefore, with this article, we want to provide clarity on the current situation and reassure you.
What is going on?
In March 2023, the Swedish electrical safety regulator, Elsäkerhetsverket (ESV), issued a ban on the sale and installation of Easee Home and Easee Charge charging stations in Sweden. A notable detail is that the director of ESV is a co-owner and shareholder of a major local competitor of Easee. Oops?!
The Belgian market regulator, the BIPT, has indicated that it is following this decision by the Swedish authority. As a result, the sale and installation of these specific Easee chargers in Belgium is prohibited as of July 20, 2023. However, the BIPT has not initiated a recall and allows customers to continue using the chargers. This indicates that the use of the chargers is safe and that the problems are related to administrative issues or incorrect submission procedures rather than genuine safety issues.
What does this mean for you?
Your safety and satisfaction are of the utmost importance to us. As a Blulinc customer, you can trust that your installation is not only safe but also highly reliable. We have installed a Type A or B RCD for almost all our customers, a component that provides an extra layer of protection. These RCDs are designed to protect your equipment from electric shocks by cutting off the power in the event of overload or leakage currents. This ensures an extra level of safety in our installations. Therefore, as a Blulinc customer, you can continue using your Easee charger with complete peace of mind.
What does the future hold?
Easee has announced that they will launch three new models soon. One of these models, the Easee Lite, does not have a built-in RCD. This means that it must always be installed with a Type A or B RCD. And therefore, it may be sold and installed today.
Important Update: Situation Regarding Easee Chargers and Regulation of Charging Stations
Regularization of Charging Stations
In December 2023, the Belgian government announced a new regularization procedure for electric charging stations installed before July 17, 2023. Under this scheme, even previously rejected charging stations will be re-evaluated and, if necessary, re-certified. This step is an important development to ensure the safety and reliability of the existing charging infrastructure throughout Belgium.
