Since March 11, 2021, new rules apply to the installation of charging points in building car parks. These obligations are in effect for new construction projects and major renovations for which an environmental permit is applied for from this date onwards.
As of January 1, 2025, these rules will be extended to existing buildings with car parks. Companies in Flanders with a car park of 20 or more spaces are required to install at least two charging points. These measures stem from the European Directive on improving the energy performance of buildings and support the transition to emission-free transport.
In Brussels and Wallonia, the legislation is also changing significantly. If you have multiple car parks at a single building, the regulations apply per car park.
